Although I had originally planned to go to Harrogate to have afternoon tea, logistics and menu choices swayed me into going elsewhere!

Located off the main road into Cheltenham is the Malmaison hotel, having stayed at the Birmingham Mailbox one I had high hopes for our afternoon.
They had some pretty fancy (and very clean!) toilets and this beautiful little oasis area in the middle of the hotel.
How much is afternoon tea?
Malmaison have 2 different options for Afternoon Tea. You can opt for the cream tea for £16.50 per person or full afternoon tea for £29.50 per person.
I actually won an experience day voucher last Christmas and used this towards it – so our little outing only cost £10 (and some fuel) which included the full afternoon tea option.
Malmaison Afternoon Tea Menu
Whichever you choose they come with a selection of tea, coffee or hot chocolate. We just had tea (2 pots each) but we could have mixed it up with other choices if we wanted too.
The main reason I liked the look of this one is I don’t eat sandwiches (yep I know, weird right?) but I am just REALLY fussy. So having some different savoury options sounded much better for me.
Our Experience
The afternoon tea is served in Chez Mal the Malmaison restaurant. Our table was ready and waiting for us when we arrived.
It isn’t a huge space and wasn’t busy at all. Everything is also branded which I love and looked so uniform and clean.
We were asked about allergies but also if there were any items we didn’t want. Prawn Cocktail had to go and they were happy to replace it with extra cake – yay!
We didn’t wait long for it to come out, they bring out the savoury and cakes first with the scones a bit after as they come out freshly made and warm.
As with most afternoon teas, it came out in a beautiful display. I tried the wrap and slider and left the Egg mayo and cress to Gaz.
Of course my favourite part was the mini victoria sponge cakes. Although the scones were a close second.
(and for those who wonder – Gaz puts the cream on first and I only put jam on)
We couldn’t finish it all so we took some of the cakes home for the kids. They even boxed them up for us.
It was a really lovely afternoon and would recommend them if you are looking for a slightly different afternoon tea option.
