A break from my usual family content to talk about my child and husband free holiday with my friend Sarah! We jetted off to the very sunny island of Zante for 5 days of rest and relaxation (and perhaps a cocktail or 2!) We stayed at the Golden Sun in Kalamaki for 4 nights all inclusive.

Flights
This was my first time flying with Jet2 and I was impressed with the whole process from checking in online to the transfer to the hotel. Each member of the Jet2 team were friendly and helpful!
The flight was around 3.5 hours which was just long enough time for us to catch up on the sleep we missed from having to leave Worcester at 2am! And look at the views we had when we were coming into land

Hotel
The transfer to the airport was less than 30 minutes as the hotel it located quite literally at the end of the runway! We did have a few drop offs before us but it was still super quick.
Check in was also quick and our room was ready on arrival so we dumped our bags, swapped into swimwear and headed out to grab loungers before getting food.
On check in we were given a pretty comprehensive guide of everything we could need to know for our stay, I do like when hotels have these, sometimes it’s easier than having to open the app and then try and find the information buried somewhere 5 clicks in!
Food
The food was fine, I am super fussy and they did alot of fish which I don’t eat but I didn’t starve. They had a good range at every sitting with at least 6 mains to choose from, a soup of the day, live cooking station, salad bar and dessert station.
They also had a hot drinks machine, self serve soft drinks, beer and wine taps.
Bars
Along with the self serve area in the dining room there are also self serve areas on the balcony bar and pool bar. With soft drinks, wine and beer on tap.
Along with the inclusive drinks you could pay extra for certain spirits and cocktails (which you are also trusted with glass on the outside seating area!)
To be honest in my opinion they weren’t worth paying for, we had much nicer ones round the corner for €6 and these were €10 each.
The pool bar also does snacks – sandwiches, salads and chips.
Pool
Just the 1 pool at Golden Sun, but the hotel is pretty small so it’s more than enough. They do have a small shallow pool attached to the main pool, along with a jacuzzi pool and 2 day beds in a shallow pool.
The waterfalls flow from the shallow pool and the jets seemed to be on at random intervals, but usually in the morning. They had outside showers available next to the pool and a small indoor area with seating, ping pong and an air hockey table. They did play the music from inside here though so if the music was on it was pretty loud.
Room
The Golden Sun has a range of rooms available to sleep between 1-4 adults, they also have a Family room which can accomodate 4+1 Infant.
We had a twin room with garden view which was perfect for us. 2 Single beds, private bathroom and a balconty overlooking the gardens.
We did have a safe but it was locked and they said someone would come and unlock it, they didnt, but it was so small it wouldn’t store much more than passports and a purse anyway!
@familyadventureguide Replying to @w_s_1315 Here is a walk round of the hotel and room, its a pretty small hotel with everything being around the pool basically! #goldensun #kalamaki #Zante ♬ original sound – Family Adventure Guide
Spa Facilities
The sister hotel next door offers spa facilities, each day on the reception and pool bar you’ll find a different offer. The spa ladies also came round the pool to hand out price lists, unfortunately not until the last day so we missed out on visiting.
Onsite Shop
Next door to the entrance is a small shop with all sorts of inflatables and the usual holiday essentials. Along with snacks, gifts and toiletries, it was pretty reasonable prices too.
Kalamaki area
Just a short walk away is a beautiful sandy beach with crystal clear warm waters. You can hire 2 loungers and a parasol for €20 for the day.
Zakinthos – Bliss Cocktail Bar
We did get a taxi to Zakinthos in a search for some nightlife, but it was more expensive cocktail bars that the cheap karaoke bars we were in search of! The taxi was less than €20 but we soon headed back down to Kalamaki.
Shamrocks – Kalamaki
We eventually found Shamrocks and this was much more what we were looking for! Kararoke and cocktails served with sparklers!
The cocktails were around €6 and were really nice and when they found out it was Lisas birthday they made sure our glasses were never empty.
Zakynthos Airport
When it was time to go home we were worried with how small the airport was there wouldn’t be much there but we need not have worried! They had several sandwich type places, coffee shops and down by the gates we have a Dominos (only serving pizzas no sides or extras) and this hot food place.
