Company culture is a direct reflection of what is going on in your business. It can be a wonderful journey or a toxic nightmare. It is in everyone’s best interests to make the workplace somewhere everyone wants to be.

This is a challenge in most cases, but there are some simple ways you can tackle it. So, from social interactions to employee consensus, here are some ideas.

Reward Hard Work as a Team

No one likes feeling unappreciated at work, and nobody should. Most employees work really hard, and they ask for nothing in return. But that doesn’t mean bosses shouldn’t reward a job well done.

Singling out an employee for hard work is the traditional method. But how about rewarding everyone? Some ideas include restaurant meals, fun days out or even company massage services and spa days. This helps everyone work together as a cohesive unit.

Encourage Social Interaction

Workplaces can be very busy places, and this isn’t a bad thing. It means people are getting things done. But working too much can cause rifts between team members and departments.

Social interaction helps people get to know each other and work more efficiently and happier as a result. Mandated break times are a great way to encourage interactions. Interdepartmental break rooms, scheduled activities such as yoga, and relaxation rooms are very powerful.

Better Company Culture with Transparency

Even today, with many of the world’s issues, some of the biggest companies on the planet, such as Facebook, are very opaque. Forbes surveyed workers and found that 50% of them feel their companies lack transparency.

Being open and transparent to workers and the public helps prove you have nothing to hide. Studies have also shown that employees will engage much more and with confidence, if the company moves to adopt a transparent workplace culture.

Give Employees a Voice

From the lowest levels up, all employees need a voice. The staff are the troops on the ground, and they hold valuable information. Rather than turning a blind eye or not listening, any company can be helped by considering what the staff has to say.

Employees should be encouraged to report issues, both personal and companywide. These should also be acted upon and not swept aside. Any personal issues should be treated with the highest confidence.

Promote Inclusion with Zero Tolerance

The world is more tolerant of minorities than ever before. Sexual orientation, race, and religion are always issues that we can come back to. But there is no place in the workplace for discrimination.

HR should work to make diversity a part of the company structure, but they can’t do it alone. There also needs to be procedures in place to ensure acts of bullying toward any member of staff are dealt with appropriately and proportionally, with zero tolerance for hate.

Summary

Rewarding teams as a whole, when an individual does a good job, will help promote a better company culture at your business. It also helps to make management more approachable with a transparent shift across the company. And diversity and inclusivity are more vital than ever.
