Today we ventured over to Severn Valley Country park parkrun (part of the Black Pear Joggers 2024 challenge) wow what a run it is 😆

Severn Valley Country parkrun

Starting at the top of the hill you have a stunning view across the Severn Valley, with the addition of the steam train passing through. The smoke hung in the air giving the view a foggy feel on this rather cold Saturday morning!

The first timers briefing was full of the delights we could look forward too, including a muddy downward hill and a very steep couple of hundred metres incline which we could look forward to doing twice (once in the middle and right at the end)

After the RD gave their pre run talk including shouting out all the volunteers by name (a nice touch!) And announcing the milestones and tourists, we headed to the start at the top of the hill.

The route starts with a lovely down hill section view beautiful views before crossing the bridge and into the woods. The wood trail was soft underfoot but not overly muddy considering the rain and flooding we’ve had lately!

There is a small slope down where you start your run back towards the bridge which was certainly muddier the 2nd time round but still nothing compared to what we had at Worcester on Christmas day!

A nice flat run back through the lower part of the woods and you are back at the bridge where you cross over and head off to the left to start the hill climb.

Nothing could have prepared me for the hill. Wyre Forests 3.5km hill is a speed bump in comparison it felt never ending on the first loop because I had no idea how long it would go on for. Thankfully it didn’t feel half as bad the 2nd time especially knowing the finish line it just beyond it!

The course is lovely, although it is the contingency course so not the normal one but I’m sure that is just as nice (and apparently marginally easier!) It is well worth a visit.

On site you’ll find toilets and a cafe by the start/finish serving hot and cold drinks along with snacks, cake and of course bacon sandwiches! 🥓 😋

Parking is free until 10am which was just enough time to run and grab a coffee, recover for 10 minutes before driving home.
