The UK is full of hidden gems and presents plenty of staycation options for Brits. You’re not against the idea of a city break in London or Edinburgh, but what about taking a trip to some of the island’s best beaches?
Instinctively, you want to say that the UK hasn’t got any good beaches. Well, you’re wrong! It’s home to stunning coastlines that rival some of the best in the world – and here are three beautiful beaches to add to your UK travel bucket list.

Chesil Beach, Dorset
Chesil Beach is one of many stunning beaches in Dorset. It’s not a sandy beach, but you’re not coming here to sunbathe and enjoy cocktails in a deck chair! No, this is a beach for people who want to explore and go wandering. It features an 18-mile-long strip with a lagoon separating you from the beach and mainland. You can walk for hours and take in the beautiful natural sights.
Its close situation to Weymouth makes it a popular place for UK coach holidays as you can travel around the nearby area to see other cool sights and scenes. Like all beaches, this one looks its best in summer, so plan a visit for the next summer season.
Blackpool Sands, Devon
Despite its name, Blackpool Sands is nowhere near Blackpool. You’ll find it in South Devon, hidden amongst tall trees and fields. When you get there, your eyes are opened to a beautiful little alcove with golden gravel and pure blue waters.
This is a great place to bring the kids as they can play and safely enjoy a dip in the sea. It gets pretty hot here in the summer and Devon is a hugely popular vacation spot. If you’re thinking about buying a holiday home in the UK, this could be one of the top locations to consider. You’ll certainly get a lot of use out of it – and you’ll have quick access to this wonderful beach.
Whitepark Bay, County Antrim
Fancy a family trip to Northern Ireland? Flights are cheap, the journey is quick and you’ll find countless things to do. Head on over to County Antrim and you’ll encounter endless stretches of sandy beaches with gorgeous clear water. It’s on the same coastline as the Giant’s Causeway – which is an amazing natural rock formation you must visit while you’re here.
Thanks to the popularity of this tourist spot, most people neglect to wander further and find Whitepark Bay Beach. It’s worth looking for as the green hills, white sand and bright blue sea create an idyllic backdrop. However, there’s a secret waiting for you here that’s worth the trip.
The sand sings. Seriously, when the wind blows it causes the sand to rub together and hum! There’s a lovely little pub nearby selling hearty meals for you and your family to warm up after exploring this beach.
The more you look into it, the more you realise just how many beautiful beaches the UK boasts. Add these three to your bucket list and then look for more – you won’t be disappointed.
