I have felt awful having Holly and Oscar home while I have been working this summer. So we are trying to make the most of any time off I have! Last night we decided to sign up to a National Trust membership and made our first visit Brockhampton with our friends.

Estate: 1,700 acre estate with woodland, orchards, parkland and farmland. Includes over 145 acres of orchards, the largest in the Trust’s care.
Manor House: A picturesque, moated manor house built over 600 years ago, portraying life through the eras.
Brockhampton Chapel: The Chapel is located at the top of the estate near the welcome kiosk. Constructed between 1790 and 1810, this Chapel was built to replace the now-ruined Norman Chapel that is situated next to Lower Brockhampton manor house.

How much is entry to Brockhampton?

You have 2 options when visiting National Trust sites. You can either pay for a day ticket or sign up to an annual pass.

The annual pass offers really good value for money if you are likely to visit more than 3 sites a year. If you are a parkrun regular it also means free parking at National Trust locations like Colby parkrun.

Kids pass currently has 7% off National Trust tickets and you can sign up to kids pass for £1 for 30 days over on the Kids Pass site

I’m always up for cake and I would go as far to say cake can make or break my day! Today is a break as they didn’t have any Victoria sponge cake for Oscar and I so that is a thumbs down from us for today **Cries in cakeless days**

The Granary offers all your usual hot drinks along with iced coffee, crisps, chocolate bars, ice cream and some hot snacks.

I have heard the curried cauliflower pastry is amazing if you want to try something new but think i’ll stick to cake…

A small amount of seating is available inside but there is plenty outside for when the sun is shining, as it is today!

Toilets are also available here, they were clean and tidy even though it seemed quite busy today.

Of course I had to have a look round, but I did refrain from buying anymore books! Prices were pretty reasonable up to a couple of pound for the ones I checked. You can leave cash in the honesty box or pop into the cafe and pay by card.

They have all sorts of adults, children and teens literature along with magazines and even sheet music!

We didn’t go inside the manor house as we were short of time today but they had confetti making on today.

Holly and Oscar soon spotted the hammocks amongst the trees in the orchard and they were very excited. Gaz did almost have a nap though as he said they were very comfy

Balance bikes are available to borrow from the visitor hut to take around the trails. They told us to follow the blue trail as this one was the shortest and had play areas along the route.

We purchased trail packs for Holly and Oscar which at the moment is the ‘Hidden in the Hedgerows’ trail.

Each of them got a bag with a trail map and space to note down the answers, a pack of colouring pencils which cost £3 each.

Holly had such fun using it as an opportunity to show off her reading skills by reading out each clue.

The 1.5 miles Orchard trail is buggy friendly and takes you on a loop of the play areas at Brockhampton.

Holly and Oscar had fun testing out their balance skills and hiding in the tunnels, as did some of the big kids with us today!

Oscars favourite was the replica ship, we were running out of time today though so we had to promise we would come back soon.

We skipped the last activity where you could draw on these boards but Holly had a birthday party we needed to get back for.

I was surprised how much time we spent at Brockhampton without a single moan of being bored. We would have spent another couple of hours if we hadn’t got other plans this afternoon.

I look forward to visiting some more National Trust locations over the next 12 months
