How To Keep Up With Your Eye Health Over The Years

If you’re looking to take steps to improve your health and quality of life, it means more than diet, fitness, and the occasional visit to the doctor’s. It also means being aware of the specifics of your health that change over time and what you do to manage them.

Your eyes, and by extension your vision, are one important example. Even if you’re already wearing glasses, there is more that you could potentially be doing to take care of them.

Get Them Checked Regularly

If you don’t remember when your last eye test was, then it’s probably a good idea to arrange for another one. You don’t need one every year, but roughly every 5 is a good idea. This can help you catch conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, or cataracts early, improving your chances of successfully treating them. Whether you do or don’t wear glasses, eye exams help you maintain the health of your peepers.

Ensure Your Glasses Are Right For You

If you do wear glasses, then it’s extra important to arrange for an exam to make sure that your prescription hasn’t changed over the years. If it has, then you could save money and avoid having to buy a new pair entirely by finding services to reglaze your glasses. It can be more affordable, not to mention more convenient, to simply replace your current glazing than to replace the whole pair.

Be Mindful Of Eyestrain

While eyestrain does not cause long-term changes to your vision as far as we know, the stress that it places on your eyes can’t be good for them either. At the very least, it’s a painful and annoying condition that can get in the way, especially when you’re trying to work. There are programs you can use to dim your phone and PC screens to help you better avoid eyestrain, and you should make sure that the area you’re in is well-lit, especially if you’re face to-face with a monitor.

Take The Sun Seriously

The damage that UV light can do to your eyes should never be underestimated. Over time, it can do lasting and even permanent damage to your vision, speeding up the development of cataracts, alongside other issues. Make sure that when it’s sunny outside, you have a pair of reliable 100% UVA and UVB protection sunglasses. Stick to the shade and wear a wide-brimmed hat to be extra cautious.

Feed Your Eyesight

While carrots might not exactly give you super vision, as they were once prompted to, they can definitely do a lot to improve your vision, such as reducing night blindness. In general, there are plenty of foods that are good for your eyes that can improve how you see right now while also satving off the effects of macular degeneration. Incorporate leafy greens, omega-3-rich fish like salmon, and berries in your diet more often.

Keep the tips above in mind as you move towards a healthier and more wellness-focused lifestyle. If you don’t take care of your eyes now, then you’re likely to regret it before too long.
