When you have children, a play room is one of the best things you can have in the house. It’s a way for them to stay downstairs and play within easy sight of you, but also somewhere where you can keep the toys neat and tidy. Once they turn into teenagers, this idea of a playroom is something that will also be appreciated but is often overlooked.
It can be a room where they can hang out with friends, chill out and have their own fun space. In this article we take a look at how you can make a teen play room in your house so you can still keep an eye on what’s going on but also make it a fun space for them to enjoy. Keep on reading to find out more and get inspired.
Design it with longevity in mind
When creating a teen hangout room, you want to think of the longevity of it. It’s important to make it a space that is useful for them now, but that will also be good in a few years time. This might be for their younger siblings, or for when they move out and you want it to be a spare room for people to stay, or another sitting room for you.
Have neutral colours on the wall and flooring such as laminate or a neutral coloured carpet that can easily be accessorised and have the room change around it without the need to spend money on redecorating.
Have plenty to keep them entertained
The main purpose of the teen hangout room is to keep them entertained, so make sure there is plenty to do in here. You could have a TV and games console, as well as board games which they can play against each other. You could have a pool table (or a mini one if you don’t have the most space) as well as a table for things such as doing art or makeup.
Keep it comfy
You want the teen hangout room to be comfortable and a space they want to spend time in. Ensure you get a sofa or some squashy armchairs they can enjoy. You could get a media wall fireplace that will be used to keep it warm but also look stylish. Think about the lighting to make it warm and welcoming and it’s also a good idea to get cushions and blankets that they can curl into and make it a space they really like to spend time in.
These are just a few things you can do to create a teen hangout room in your house. Whether you’ve got one teenager or a few and you’re thinking of both the long and short term usage of it, these tips are sure to help.
