As usual we had to have 2 rooms to fit us all in and we opted for a swim up room and a normal room as they didn’t have 2 swim ups available by the time we booked.

This room was ready first so of course the kids wanted to get straight in the pool! It took quite a bit of negotiating to convince them we needed to eat first as we arrived at the hotel around 12 and hadn’t eaten since around 6am.

The room is really spacious with a double bed and a single sofa bed, which promptly became storage for everything we needed to leave down here rather than dragging stuff back an forth between the rooms.

We had a mini fridge which was refilled daily with bottles of water, Coca-Cola and Fanta.

These rooms are all located on the lower ground floor, which may seem obvious but after staying in Rhodes and having a 2nd floor swim up I will never presume they will always be on the ground floor! They are in block block 1 and 2, we were located in block 1.

The door out to the terrace is a split door and you can keep the lower part closed to act like a child gate which we thought was a really good idea.

This room came with dressing gowns and slippers, which we never use but they make for nice pics anyway.

And of course the main attraction… the (semi) private pools. We were lucky we only shared with the room next door and it was empty from our 2nd day. The other pools were shared with 3 rooms.

We were lucky our pool had the sun for most of the day until around 3pm. The last pool in our row kept the sun for around an extra hour. The pools in block 2 looked to be much more shaded than ours in the morning but did have the sun later in the day.

The were ice cold, but we didn’t expect any different and the kids didn’t seem too bothered. It was also nice to get in after being out in the sun.

We had a thunderstorm mid stay and it seemed to set off a black fly invasion and our terrace and pool was absolutely covered in them. The pool guy didn’t seem concerned and they did eventually filter out after a couple of days with the help of the kids pushing the fly filled water down to the filter end.

The floor just inside the door was very slippy when wet so we would put down the bath mat and a towel for them to walk across when coming back into the room.

The mini fridge also kept defrosting and leaving puddles in the wardrobe and on the floor, but they couldn’t work out why as it was still on and still cold so we just put towels down.

And lastly we were quite far from a pool bar, so had to either walk down to the activity pool or go upstairs to the Manar reception bar.

Upstairs we had our 2nd room, this wasn’t ready when we arrived as they noticed they had allocated us a room in block 2 so they said if we didn’t mind waiting they’d get one in block 1 ready for us.

Up here we had a king sized bed (which didn’t have the usual 2 beds shoved together problem!) and 2 single sofa beds in a separate area.

These rooms don’t have a balcony which I completely didn’t read when I booked, we coped just fine without one though as there was a big ledge outside the window we could dry swimming stuff on. The windows also opened really wide so you could still feel the sea breeze.

Both bathrooms were pretty similar with a bath and shower over, hairdryer and shaving point.

We were above the Manar reception and it seemed to be quite noisy, even with the internal door closed. As I mentioned above we didn’t have a balcony and if we hadn’t had the other room I would have missed having one.

Not a negative for us, but this room didn’t have a coffee machine (does anyone actually use them?!) and we didn’t get offered drinks for our mini fridge like we did downstairs.

And if like me you can’t sleep if you need to be up early for your flight for the fear of oversleeping you get some beautiful views of the stars and sunrise across the Tui Blue Manar resort.
