Best breakfast cafes in Burnham on Sea

Now we have visited quite a few locations I thought it was time to share the Best breakfast cafes in Burnham on Sea we have found!

If you are staying at Haven Burnham on Sea – This a great way to try out some of the local places.

They are in no particular order and I have included how much our breakfast costs and what we rated it too – Feel free to let me know in the comments what you thought of these places or any others we should try.

BOS Cafe

Phone – 01278 238686
Address – 4 High St, Burnham-on-Sea TA8 1PD (Up the other end of the High Street by Lloyds bank)

Opening times;
Monday to Saturday 8am till 5pm
Sunday 9am till 5pm

You’ll find plenty of seating inside the BOS cafe and a couple of tables outside on the high street.

The menu is huge! 5 pages of choices, although only about 3/4 of one page is breakfast it is more than enough choice.

The food was freshly cooked and didn’t take too long, the portions were pretty good too.

Cost for 7 of us £35 – Our rating 6/10

Wetherspoons – The Reed Arms

Phone – 01278764060
Address – 1 Pier St, Burnham-on-Sea TA8 1BT

Opening times;
Monday to Sunday 8am till Midnight
Children welcome 8am till 9pm only

The menu is fairly standard across all Wetherspoons. You can check the most up to date menu here.

Personally Wetherspoons is my prefered go to because it’s pretty consistent wherever you go. Gaz however is not a fan at all and would rather go anywhere but a wetherspoons!

Cost for 6 of us £33.78 – Our rating – 8/10

Front Parlour (Formerly The Artful Dodger Cafe)

Phone – 07702 456942
Address – 6 Esplanade, Burnham-on-Sea, TA8 1BB

Opening times;
Varies throughout the season. Currently closed for the winter.

This is Gazs favourite place, he was gutted when The Artful Dodger closed and he thought he would never get a dodger breakfast again!

The Front Parlour is owned by the same people and they made the decision to start offering breakfasts at The Front Parlour (not on Sundays) as they had been so popular.

I would argue the breakfasts are slightly better since they moved them and they did put the price up slightly but they are still pretty cheap.

**Update 15th May 2023 – The Artful Dodger has now reopened.

Cost for 6 of us around £30 – Our rating – 9/10

The Smokehouse Kitchen

Phone – 01278781800
Address – 27-29 High St, Burnham-on-Sea TA8 1NX (They were previously on the other side)

Opening times;
Monday : Closed
Tuesday & Thursday : 11am – 4pm
Wednesday, Friday & Saturday : 11am – 3.30pm & 5-9pm
Sunday : 12 – 4pm

I have written a longer post about The Smokehouse here but in short we liked it as it was a bit different.

Cost for 7 of us £41.70 – Our rating – 8/10

Mash and Barrel

Address – Inside Haven Holiday Village, Burnham-on-Sea TA8 1LA

Opening times;
Varies throughout the season but generally 9am – 9pm

Personally we wouldn’t recommend anyone eats in here. The service is poor and the food quality is really hit and miss but if you are staying on site sometimes its just convenient to not have to leave.

They do have a Seaside Squad meet and greet breakfast on Fridays and Mondays at 9.30am but you won’t know which character is coming. You can also grab one of these cards and collect the stickers each time you have a photo with a character.

Cost for 6 of us – Around £50 – Our Rating 3/10 (This was the 2022 costs – Currently Kids eat for £1 at Haven so it. iscomingup closer to £35)

Ray’s Cafe

Phone – 01278 780771
Address – High St, Burnham-on-Sea TA8 1PD (Down the B&M end of the High Street)

Opening times;
Monday to Sunday 8am till 2pm

The menu is quite compact compared to some of the other places we have mentioned, but you can add extras on to build your perfect breakfast.

I think it’s quite similar to the Artful Dodger breakfast in terms of taste and quality.

Cost for 4 of us : £21 – Our rating – 7/10

Ollies Cafe

Ollie’s Cafe is located out on the road to Weston (Bristol Road) It’s only a short drive from the Haven site. Free parking is available onsite.

Phone 01278 760050 Email hello@olliescafe.co.uk
Address Ollie’s Cafe Bristol Road Brent Knoll TA9 4HJ

Opening times;
Monday to Saturday – 8:00 -15:00
Sunday – 9:00 – 15:00
We are open as normal on all public & bank holidays. Excluding Christmas Day & Boxing Day

We arrived around 9.20am (so 20 minutes after it opened) and it was already pretty packed. We didn’t book but you can and probably should if you won’t be there for when it opens. It’s a really modern interior and very clean, they are also dog friendly.

They found us a table but did say it was booked out from 10.30am so we had a little over an hour to have our breakfast. This is plenty. oftime and to be honest we want to get in and out as quickly as possible!

The food took a little longer to come out but it did all appear freshly cooked and not like it had been stood waiting under a heat lamp.

I wasn’t overly a fan of the sausages they were really gritty, the rest was ok and they did give me extra hash browns in a swap for not having Egg tomato or mushrooms which was nice as most places don’t.

Oscar decided he didn’t actually want to eat any of his at all, so Holly had all of hers and half of Oscars. Chloe had Belgium Waffles with Bananas, Butterscotch sauce and Ice cream (not very breakfasty but she liked it)

Cost for 5 of us : £43.70 – Our rating – 6/10

Hungry Horse – The Rosewood

Phone – 01278 238686
Address – 4 High St, Burnham-on-Sea TA8 1PD (Up the other end of the High Street by Lloyds bank)

Opening times;
Monday to Saturday 8am till 5pm
Sunday 9am till 5pm

I have written a much longer post about The Rosewood so do give that a read. We love the Hungry Horse chain as they have a long running kids eat free offer which works great for us.

The food is pretty good and the kids breakfast has a good selection they do get busy in the school holidays though so it’s best to book a table if there are more than 4 of you.

Cost for 6 of us : £23.95 – Our rating – 8/10

  1. Annabel – Hearty Hampshire – My life consists of three things; my hyper-active son, William; my 6ft 3 husband Mike and my part time job in a Library and I love them all, yes I love life but I still have bad days as well as good. I have suffered with depression, and am guilty of using humour to deal with it, but apparently people like that so that makes me happy to make others happy (double edge sword!)

    I’ll save this post for if I’m anywhere near in the future, they all sound good places!
    Why did the change the name of the artful dodger cafe? That’s a shame, what a cool name!!

    1. They completely closed the Dodger cafe (and it’s just sat empty now!) but they also own the Front Parlour and didn’t used to do breakfast at all (just afternoon tea, some basic lunch options and Sunday Dinner) so they just added it onto what they already did at the Front Parlour 🙂
