How to Feel Right at Home When Travelling Frequently

Frequent travel can be an exciting adventure, but it often comes with challenges, including homesickness and a feeling of displacement.  Honestly, it doesn’t matter how often you travel, how far you travel, why you’re travelling, or where you’re travelling. Sometimes, that feeling of being right at home just kicks in. Staying in those hotel rooms doesn’t really bring that at-home feeling.

Sure, they’re comfortable, but that special feeling that a place is your home just doesn’t exist when you’re travelling (unless you have a vacation home, of course). So, with that said, whether you’re traveling to Spain or far away cities in Asia, you should try to do what you can to make yourself feel comfortable and at home. So, here’s exactly what you need to know!

Create a Ritual When You Travel

In order to feel like you’re at home, sometimes, this means doing things that you would do when you were home. Having a specific routine or even a ritual will really help out with this. Plus, establishing a travel ritual can be comforting and grounding.

This could be as simple as having a cup of your favorite coffee at a local café, practicing a short meditation, waking up at a certain time, or taking a moment to journal before starting your day. It’s really about making yourself feel like things are normal, even if you’re in a different environment.

No matter where you are in the world or what you’re wondering, such as “Is ESPN Plus available in Canada?” if you want to watch TV, just try to do small things that can help you feel at home. You’ll need to keep in mind that you might not be able to do everything or every ritual that you would usually do at home, but embracing some small things like certain foods or certain schedules can help a lot.

Pack Up Your Familiar Items

Whether you’re doing some solo travel or bringing the family along, packing a few familiar items will definitely help with feeling normal and feeling right at home when travelling. So, why not consider bringing a few personal items from home?

To a degree, these can make a significant difference in feeling like you’re more at home. You don’t have to go overboard or anything; you might want to consider packing a favourite blanket, or a small memento that holds sentimental value. These items can bring a piece of your home with you on your travels.

Keep Yourself Connected with Loved Ones

Technology has made it easier than ever to stay connected with family and friends. Do you remember old-fashioned calling cards for long-distance numbers? How about having to send postcards or letters to let loved ones know you’re safe? Thankfully, these are mostly a thing of the past thanks to the huge amount of apps and social media platforms available to keep connected to those you love. In general, having regular video calls or messages can bridge the gap and offer a sense of closeness, even when you’re miles away from home.
