Ensure your home is safe and baby-proofed

One of the most important things you need to do when bringing a baby home is ensure your house is baby-proofed. You need to think of everything that might be unsafe in your house and figure out how to sort it. From doing your own fire risk assessments, to securing furniture to the wall and adding corner bumpers to sharp edged furniture, there are a myriad of things you can do. While some things might seem a bit premature to be doing when your little one won’t be on the move for a while, it’s always better to be prepared and ready for when the time comes.

Sort out all those niggly jobs you keep putting off

We all have those niggly jobs we put off all the time. Whether it’s repainting the hallway, fixing the bolts on a set of drawers or changing a light bulb, things just soon become invisible when we live with them everyday. When you have a baby, your time to do these jobs will pretty much disappear altogether so it’s good to get it off your list while you have a chance.

Give it a deep clean

Your nesting instinct will kick in, and suddenly you will want your house to be as tidy and clean as possible. Once your baby is here, your time to give the underside of your cupboards a good scrub will be far and few between, so make the most of the time while you have it and give your home a really good deep clean. You’ll feel much better after it and will feel happier having the baby come home to a spotless house too.

These are just a few things you can do that can make your home ready for a new baby. It’s a good idea to get ready a few weeks in advance in case your little one comes early or you’re just too pregnant to be able to do it yourself when the due date gets nearer. Once it’s done you’ll feel much more able to relax. What are some top tips you have for making your home ready for a new baby? Let us know in the comments below, we’d love to hear from you.
