Renovating your home can be a thrilling experience, but it can also get quite messy. But leaving the mess unchecked can lead to damage or discolouration of your furniture.

You also have to deal with potential harm to your garden or driveway, which can cost thousands to repair.

Managing the mess can be challenging, but you don’t have to worry. Here are some effective ways to keep your renovation project organised and minimise the mess.

Protect the furnishings

During a home remodelling project, large furniture pieces are often left in the rooms and not moved. They are normally covered in plastic and forgotten about until the refurbishment is completed.

However, this is not always sufficient to keep the dust away. If you want to do extensive drilling or other substantial remodelling, wrap the furniture in old sheets before laying the plastic coverings.

Thickly woven cotton and linen are the finest at capturing even small dust that manages to get in despite the plastic wrapping. When the time comes to clean up after the builders, make sure to remove the cloth coverings gently.

Limit the spread of dirt

It will be difficult to keep your home clean if the restoration job takes place in an interior section of the house. Covering the route leading to the renovation area with carpet scraps, boards, or thick plastic is the solution.

This way, you or your builders can keep the walkway clear of dirt, trash or spills. That is the most effective approach to keep dirt from spreading throughout the property. When the building work for the day is over, you shake or vacuum them well. You can put them back once the job resumes.

Make a daily cleaning schedule for the duration of the renovation

It is important to reduce the mess left by builders, and you can do this by creating a cleaning program that is tailored to your specific needs. You and the contractors should plan ahead of time who will clean what throughout the project.

Typically, they are responsible for the daily cleanups and debris removal in the renovated area. However, it is still a good idea to take up some of the responsibilities.

You may need to vacuum and dust the areas of the house to prevent dirt from spreading to all parts of the house and to preserve the cleanliness and air quality of your home.

Hire professionals after builders finish their jobs

Calling professional cleaners is undoubtedly the best thing you can do after a large home remodel. It is also the most convenient option, as you can enjoy the effects of the makeover without the trouble and exhaustion of strenuous work.

Even if you follow the first three rules of keeping your house clean throughout a remodelling, there will usually be stains, spills and debris left behind. Moreover, more hazardous waste can be lying around.

Fortunately, there are specialised services available to remove any debris left behind after your renovation project is complete. Consider contacting local skip rentals companies such as Skip Hire as they offer a quick and cost-effective solution to deal with large amounts of trash.
