Tui Blue Tamala Beach formerly Sunprime Tamala Beach in Gambia is located to the northern part of Gambia. The transfer from the airport was quick (around 30 minutes) with a couple of stops along the way.
Banjul airport has a similar ‘shark tank’ arrivals area where it is best to walk through quickly and not engage with anyone. They are selling everything from esims to timeshare and taxi rides.

Highly recommend Saily for esims I have used them a couple of times now and they’ve been excellent.

Rooms
Tui Blue Tamala Beach Room type : Swim up beachfront room
Our room was so spacious! We had a swim up beach front room and the view was beautiful.
Although the rooms were tired in places, mainly the bathroom, overall they are lovely. The bed had a mosquito net on it (use it!) we had plently of wardrobe space, a fridge and we took our firestick to plug into the TV.
We paid extra to have a beachfront room and although it was a lovely view the swim up pool didn’t get much sun at all and was preety cold the whole time we were there, which was a shame. The pool view views had a much better chance of being warm with block 5 being the best option in my opinion.
Pool
The main pool is pretty deep starting at 1.45m at the side to 1.5m in the middle. For us shorties it meant I had to rely on floaties to go in the pool. It was cold but fine once you are in as it is so hot in the sun.
Cabana Beds
At the monent these are free to use but you have to be an early bird to get one. We had to drop our towels at 5.30am but some people were out at 3am claiming one!
They are absolutely worth it, the sun loungers are so comfy and you have the shaded seating area too. In between the cabanas are also shallow tanning pools (0.30m deep) whic h are nice to sit in.
Pool / Snack bar
The snack bar to the side of the restaurant was open in the afternoons, serving pancakes and a small selection of hot food, which varied each day. The pancakes were nice and you could also grab a hot drink and some cake/biscuits to go with it.
Sea Breeze restaurant
Lunch service
During the lunch service you can eat in here from the a la carte menu with your all inclusive band. Just be warned they don’t list everything that you’ll be getting in the menu. The burger has no mention of all the extras it has on (including a fried egg!)
Dinner service / A la carte
You get 1 free a la carte per 7 night stay.
We ended up with 2 as we went for my birthday and they completely missed out on bringing out the cake etc Gaz had arranged prior to our arrival, so they gave us a 2nd one for free.
Wednesday night – Beach BBQ
Every Wednesday they do a beach BBQ and we managed to miss this as we arrived as it finished and then left before it started!
From what we could gather it was just a buffet on the beach side of Sea Breeze and they had some entertainment in the same area.
Grill night – Thursday, Saturday & Sunday (Extra charge)
We really enjoyed this – we both had the steak and it was really good.
The Restaurant & bar
The main buffet restaurant has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I didn’t take too many food pics as lets face it, it all looks the same!
Cocktails
The cocktails were ok, I ended up mainly drinking the rosé wine with lemonade which was much better than most all inclusives wines. Malibu and pineapple juice was also another favourite.
Theas coffee shop
Although it is branded up as Theas coffee shop it wasn’t serving up the same as we haved experienced at othe Tui Blues – which I think was a running theme across the resort, they haven’t quite got it all rolled out which is a shame as we have loved the other Tui Blue hotels we have been too.
Gym
The gym area is pretty big but the equipment isn’t in the best condition, hopefully they will replace it over the summer shut down. The treadmills and bikes have a nice view over the pool area.
One of the treadmills errored during my run and just stopped dead, I managed to hurt my knee from the force of it stopping.
Activities
Being such a small resort there isn’t quite as much going on as others, but they did have the usual Darts, team games and a few other games going on during the daytime.
Currency Exchange & ATM
Tui Blue Tamala Beach doesn’t have an ATM (although you can exchange cash at reception)
The nearest one (which isn’t listed on Google maps!) Is attached to the African Princess hotel. It is around a 1km stroll along the beach until you reach Solomons bar and restaurant.
If you go down the left hand side when you are facing it from the beach the hotel and ATM are to the left hand side
If it is out of cash, go inside and there is a counter where you can pay on a card to get cash. Mastercards need to be used with chip and pin but Visa can be paid using Apple pay / Google pay / Samsung wallet
The hotel staff were very helpful and even gave me a WiFi code so I could log into my bank and approve the transaction.
You can walk a shorter route along the road but the beach way is much nicer
Beach
Crystal clear waters – check, long stretches of soft sand – check! You couldn’t ask for anything more (well apart from to be left alone but more about that below) The beach is beautiful, the sea was on the cold side but perfectly fine after a few seconds.
The down side of the beach is the constant harrassment of people trying to sell things. They will literally follow you for miles down the beach. When we were running someone RAN with us for over 1km trying to sell us a ticket to the quiz night he was running.
We realised if you put over the head headphones on, walked in the sea and just completely ignored them they gave up much quicker. It is completely against how I am as a person because I love to talk but it was exhausting the couple of times we went onto the beach.
They were selling everything from tobacco, dr*gs, clothings, horse rides, day trips, coconut milk and peanut butter to name a few. Someone even tried to sell us shells, which there are millions of along the beach.
They hang around opposite the Sea Breeze terrace and call at you too, you do just have to ignore them best you can. It is the only thing that would put us off coming back to Gambia, it is far worse than anywhere else we have visited.
Spa
As always we headed to the spa for our usual order of a Hot Stone massage for me and a firm sports massage for Gaz.
We were offered 1 massage for the above prices or 2 for D 10,000, we decided on just the one as we were leaving the following day and didn’t want to cram in 2 in 2 days.
I don’t know what they did to Gaz but he has spent weeks in pain since his massage. The 2 ladies who did it, kept giggling during it and dropping things so it wasn’t the most relaxing session.
Summary
The total we paid for Tui Blue Tamala Beach was £3,150. I feel like this was alot for what we ended up getting as it isn’t quite up to the Tui Blue standards we are used too. Hopefully they get the finishing touches completed over the summer shutdown.
The beach front room was nice, but we ended up spending very little time in it because it didn’t get the sun meaning the pool was freezing.
The food in the main restaurant was just ok, nowhere near as good as other Tui Blues we have stayed in which was disappointing, but the Sea Breeze did make up for that once we realised we could have lunch in there everyday for free.
Would we go again? Maybe – it is a great adult only option, it’s really laid back and the weather was perfect, as you know by now we have never gone back to a hotel twice but I would add this to the list if I ever did!
