After surprising Gaz with a holiday for Christmas, I thought what better way to start off our child free time than relaxing in the Escape Lounge at East Midlands Airport?

On arrival we were told we could sit wherever we wanted. They did have the booths reserved for larger parties who had prebooked.

Although it does say you don’t need to book ahead they were busy and turning people away so it is well worth prebooking if you want to guarantee access.

Conveniently located opposite gate 17 you can’t miss it with the sign outside. Although there aren’t any toilets available inside the lounge there are some located just outside.

These are currently closed for refurbishment so the nearest toilets were back down towards the main hall.

Inside you’ll find a lovely little self serve coffee machine area with syrups (Caramel, Hazelnut, Cinnamon (vom) and Gingerbread (yum!)) and various fruit and herbal teas. Well worth taking a reusable cup with you so you can take one away with you when you leave.

There is also a self serve soft drinks dispenser with coca cola and of course the bar is serving alcohol. All alcohol is included with the exception of Champagne.

The food is a buffet selection where you can help yourself to as much as you like. The Cooked breakfast options include Bacon, Sausage, Beans, scrambled egg and potato tots.

You can also choose from a selection of pastries, Croissants, muffins and breads along with fresh fruit and cereals.

You can grab a copy of a magazine here or use the app to find a larger selection of reading materials.

In total we paid – £65.98

Overall the lounge (for us) was well worth the cost. No waiting around or rushing to get food before our flight. Drinks were included and Gaz had several beers which aren’t cheap at the airport.

Pre book Costs
Adult (16+) – from £29.99
Child (3+) – from £20.99
Children aged 0-35 months enter Escape Lounge for free.

Walk-up is from £45 per person and subject to availability.

We also had access to plug sockets and charging stations to make sure everything was fully charged for the flight.

We would definitely use the Escape Lounge again, it would come in fairly pricey with all the kids with us though
