Back in October 2023 we made a last minute booking to the Grand Sirenis Mexico, we only booked 4 weeks before we flew. Which actually for us is quite in advance. Lottie decided to stay at home with Jordan so it was just the 5 of us and I can confirm she has regretted that decision ever since!

Flights

We flew from Manchester with Tui, It is a direct flight of around 10 hours, everyone gets their own entertainment screen with movies, tv shows and games. You are fed twice and snacks and drinks are freely available.

Where is the Grand Sirenis Mexico?

The Grand Sirenis is located approx 90 minutes south of Cancun airport in the Riviera Maya area.

Rooms

The hotel only has 1 room option for not ULC(Ultimate Leisure Club) members which is the Deluxe Junior Suite. These all come with a balcony and whirlpool bath.

Our room was perfect and could easily have slept 6 of us. The beds were huge and even with the sofa bed made up it didn’t feel cramped at all.

Plenty of storage space, a safe and mini fridge. The highlight of the room for Gaz was the sliding panel which opened the bathroom up into the bedroom. It was handy for when the kids wanted a bath and we could be in the bedroom too. The bath was a jucuzzi style bath with some petty powerful jets.

The bathroom also had a seperate shower with rainshower. Towels and toiletries are provided.

Towel art

The towel art the cleaners left were next level, we took to leaving their tips in them so they knew it was for them.

Food at Grand Sirenis

Since the renovations the restaurant names and themes have changed but these are the ones we visited during our stay pre-renovations

Buffet restaurant

The buffet is huge with such a wide range of food available. For breakfast expect fresh pancakes (they make them mickey mouse shaped for the kids), omlette stations along with the usual hot and cold options you would expect from an all inclusive.

Every item of food was labelled with exactly what it was in 3 different languages and all the allergen information. This has to be the most indepth food labelling I have ever seen but it was much appreciated.

Ice Cream Parlour

This was undoubtedly Oscars favourite place on the whole resort and. We spent alot of time in here especially as he couldn’t go to the kids club. There was no limit to how many times you could visit and it is included in the all inclusive.

Coffee Shop

The coffee shop unsurprisingly does really good coffee and tea. Again it is part of the all inclusive.

A la carte restaurants

One thing we loved about the a la cartes were they all had the same childrens menu, or they could have something from the main menu if they wanted. They always had pasta and meatballs which is what Holly lived on.

Mexican

The Mexican was ok, we were a bit put off having any of the buffet starters as there was a roach running round on the table so we steered clear of that! The staff did get rid of it but it was enough to put us off.

The food was nice enough but we had other favourites.

Mediterranean

This was our favourite food overall. The atmosphere was really good and the food was much better than we expected. I actually ended up prefering the steak here to the steak restaurant.

Brazillian

We didnt get to enjoy the Brazillian too much as Holly really wasn’t well and spent the whole time on my lap but the concept is similar to the Coba where they serve you from giant kebab/skewers and you keep asking for more meat until you are done. They give you the plate of ‘sides’ to start you off and then you eat till you can’t eat anymore!

Steak

We were really looking forward to the steak restaurant as we are real steak lovers at home but it wasn’t as good as we hoped for. It was still good but the mediterranean stole the top spot for us.

Japanese

This restaurant was the most fun experience, they cook the food in front of you but make a whole show of it and it was brilliant.

The food was really good and the kids really liked the desserts in here.

Wildlife

If you don’t love being at one with nature this probably isn’t the hotel for you. From giant iguanas to monkeys that will snatch food from your hand if you try and take anything from the buffet along with coati who will pinch your bags if you leave them unattended.

We also saw a few snakes but I won’t put pictures as I know they can be unsettling to some people. One was by the rooms and we called reception for them to remove it and another was on the access road while we were out for a run.

We did have to call reception to come and remove this snake that was trying to get into someones room!

Entertainment

The entertainment at Grand Sirenis has to be some of the best entertainment we have ever experienced.

The evening stage shows were like something off broadway they were brilliant. One of the nights they did a sort of kareoke/talent show and some of the singers were incredible.

Some of the shows included a Rocky Horror show, Michael Jackson Tribute and Coco.

When it was raining they put on some activities inside the reception for the kids.

Sports activities

Some of the things we didn’t use but where available; bike hire / tours, tennis courts, basketball courts/football pitches all available to use.

Beach

Hotel Beach

The beach is quite rocky in places but the water is so clear! You can snorkel really well here and you will be surrounded by fish.

Turtle Beach

A whole stretch of the beach is restricted due to nesting turtles, if you visit at the right time of year (between May and October) you might get lucky and catch the baby turtles running for freedom towards the sea.

Secret Beach

Not too far from the hotel is a secret beach, it is accessed via a path through the jungle opposite the disco. We couldn’t find the path so went along the beach. Although we found it we couldn’t get to the beach without swimming over and as we had Oscar with us it wasn’t possible. But the water is crystal clear and the views were stunning.

Pools

Main pool

In the main pool is where you’ll find the swim up bar. Oscar was obsessed with being able to paddle over and order himself a drink.

Its quite active here with water polo among other games going on throughout the day.

Smaller pool

By the ice cream parlour is the smaller pool 2 sides with a bridge in the middle, we didn’t spend any time over there.

Lazy River

The lazy river is super cool, you just grab a floaty (or use your own) and jump in. There are various points you can get in/out but the floaties are all by the main start point.

Just watch out for snakes in the water!

Childrens Water park

Although this is next to the kids club it is open for anyone to use. With a selection of water slides and a shallow pool.

These full face snorkels are great for both adults and children they were useful for the waterslides and snorkelling in the sea.

Halloween / Day of the Dead

The Halloween through to day of the dead celebrations were amazing. The whole hotel was decorated with activities going on all over the place including a spooky jungle walk through.

Bars / Drinks

Rooftoop terrace

This was mid renovation when we visited but they still had a small bar and live music. The views were good and at night it looked cool all lit up

Dolphin Experiences

You can read about more about Chloes Dolphin Experience but here is a summary of what is available on the resort.

Grand Sirenis Spa

I booked myself into the Spa and as our holiday was with Tui any treatment also included an 2 hours use of the hydrotherapy pools and hot/cold rooms. I added on Gaz for $29/£24

I have covered this more on my other Sirenis Spa post

Grand Sirenis Kids Club

The kids club at Grand Sirenis has to be one of the best we have ever found. It runs from 10am until 5pm (some lunch times are included others are ‘eat with parents’ it depends on the staffing levels) they then also have evening entertainment from 6pm until 9pm!

The kids club is for 4 years and up and they are very strict on the age limit – we tried to get Oscar in he is about 8 weeks off from being 4 and they wouldn’t take him. They do offer in room babysitting but it is $25/hour and being stuck in the room isn’t too exciting for him!

Cenote

Another benefit of this hotel is the Cenote which is on the grounds just behind the OXXO shop. The access is to the side and down all these steps. It is worth the walk!

It is absolute silent down there and the water is crystal clear, I didn’t go in as we were just packing up too leave.

Onsite shops

Between the main entrance and the hotel you will find the OXXO store. It is a good sized supermarket to grab snacks and essentials, next door is a gift shop full of the usual holiday souvenirs. A PADI diving experience and a tattoo shop are also along this row.

And no holiday at Grand Sirenis would be complete without photos on the swings. One is on the road down to the spa and the other is by beach.

But.. how much was it?
