We have done the Wyre Forest Gruffalo Trail a couple of times now, it’s a really good way to trick the kids into burning off energy!

Whether you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, or you want something more adventurous, Wyre Forest has something for everyone.
Wyre Forest is the largest woodland National Nature Reserve in the country and can be found to the west of Birmingham.
Explore the arboretum to find the unusual Whitty Pear and don’t forget to refuel in our on-site cafe.
Our Go Ape course will keep the kids (and adults!) entertained and we’ve even got a dog wash on-site to keep your pooch pampered. With a variety of walking, cycling, running and horse trails available, there’s plenty of ways to explore the forest.
We also have an all-terrain mobility scooter available to hire for those with limited mobility.
Those looking for a more peaceful time can enjoy the more remote spots in the heart of the forest.

At the entrance to the forest where the parking and cafe are located you’ll find this massive wooden play area.

Gruffalo Trail

The Gruffalo Trail, along with all the other routes are marked from the start. It’s really useful they have various distance running routes also mapped out for you.

You can download the Grufflo Orienteering map on the Forestry England website or they are available to buy for £1.50 in the cafe.

They had good fun marching through the forest and discovering this shelter someone had built.

And of course having photos with all the Gruffalo characters along the way!

Go Ape Wyre Forest

At Wyre Forest you’ll also find a Go Ape course. You can get 10% off Go Ape with KidsPass (Valid as of 31/8/24)

Treetop Challenge is from £35 and suitable for ages 10 years+
Treetop Adventure is from £21 and suitable from 4 years old.

Wyre Forest Cafe

**This cafe has now changed hands so prices / availability may not be the same**

We stopped off at the cafe for drinks and ice creams which were very much needed after our forest adventures!

They also sell really good cake – highly recommend!

Other Facilities

Dog Wash

We don’t have a dog but I can see why one of these would be amazing to wash your dog off before putting them back in the car!

Shame they don’t have one for the kids too…

Wyre Forest parkrun and junior parkrun

Wyre Forest also hosts a 5k parkrun every Saturday at 9am and junior parkrun every sunday at 9am

Wyre Forest is a great day out and even better with an annual pass and free parking.
