We previously stayed at Bainland Lodge Country Park in 2019 and stayed in the Yarburgh lodge with our friends. As it was just us this time we went for a smaller lodge, the Markby.
Check In
Check in is from 4pm (2pm if you pay for early check in) But theres plenty to do while you wait if you arrive early.
The refurbished reception area in the main building is bright and airy with loads of comfortable seating, you can grab a Starbucks coffee (or pint!) from the bar and sit back and relax.
The girls opted for Starbucks Hot Chocolates – one with cream and marshmallows and one without.
This area is much nicer than when we last visited and is a really warm welcoming space.
Dogs are also allowed in this area and puppa-chino’s are available at the bar (I think that’s what they are called, I don’t have a dog so not something I would ever need!)
Bainland Lodge Country Park
Located within a 45 acres of parkland, Bainland Lodge Park has plenty of space for you to explore. Surrounded by Cycle paths and lots of great walks you’ll have plenty do to outdoors.
The kids loved these cow statues in the middle of the grassy area and the fact they don’t over cut the grass to allow for wildlife to flourish.
The Accommodation
We had a space directly outside our lodge which is always more convenient, this one also has disabled access via the ramp
Inside there is a well equipped kitchen with a dishwasher on your right and a bathroom on your left.
The open plan lounge is in the middle of the lodge with the bedrooms at either end which we liked as we were away from all the kids!
We opted for the double bedroom on the right.
Some basics are provided – a few teabags, coffee sachets, sugar sachets and some chocolate snack bars. There is also soap, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel in both the bathrooms.
Each guest is provided with a robe, disposable slippers (I actually brought all of ours home to leave by the back door for people going out in the garden, rather than them just be thrown away) A bath sheet and a hand towel.
Beds are all made up on arrival and the hot tub is heated and ready to go!
Hot tub
Outdoor hot tubs are the feature of these luxury lodges and are located on your private decking. Ours was pretty private but you could see if from one of the lodges behind us if you really wanted too.
It was pre heated ready for our arrival and they all loved it, as you can see it was more than big enough for them all – they especially liked it had a light that cycled through different colours.
Food – Copper Goose Bar & Bistro
Food in the Copper Goose Bar & Bistro which is located next to reception.
Whether you want to snuggle up in the cosy chairs with a Hot Chocolate or fill up on a 3 course meal there is a wide choice of meal options for adults and children in here.
It is also a fully licenced bar serving wine, beer and spirits so why not relax with your favourite drink?
You can also let the little ones blow off some steam outside in the play area if like us you’ve had a 3 hour drive to get here. Thankfully even though it is January it isn’t too cold and the sun is shining.
Breakfast
You can get breakfast rolls with a side of hash browns – it was really good although Oscar swiped my hash brown off my plate while I wasn’t paying attention
Light Bites
These were both for Gaz, he said they were really good (especially the chicken wrap)
Children’s Meals
The children’s menu has plenty of choices and the portions were pretty good too. Holly especially loves the Macaroni Cheese
Play area
Behind reception and accessible through the restaurant is a wooden play area with bridges, slides and a bucket on a pulley which seemed to keep them amused for hours.
Swimming
We were slightly disappointed that the only option to use the pool is to pay £30 for an hours private use.
Oscar likes swimming, but only for about 10 minutes. So it’s an expensive swim for us!
Fortunately we managed to convince him to stay in the pool for almost the whole hour
Inside the pool area is several changing room and toilets – inside the changing room to the back left corner is also a baby changer and a baby seat.
Climbing Wall & Archery
The climbing wall is located between the main entrance and the reception area with the archery area also next to this – both are £10 per person. The wall is a 30 minute session and Archery is for over 10s only.
Bike Hire & Tennis Courts
Bike hire is available for £15 per bike, there are loads of trails from the site so it would be a great activity for the warmer months. They have both adult and child sized bikes and also have trailers for toddlers.
Tennis / Badminton courts are also available for use free of charge during your stay. You just need to reserve your time slot with the activities hut where you can also borrow equipment for a small deposit.
Mini 4×4
This looks like good fun for the smaller ones and is priced at £10 per car
The Animals
You’ll also find, next to the 4×4 area, a field with pack of llamas and family of friendly young goats.
Oscar was fascinated by them and wanted to stroke them but they didn’t come near enough for him and I wasn’t getting any closer than where I stood to take these photos, Llamas really scare me!
Other Accommodation on site
If you fancy something other than a lodge, you will find the Safari tents over towards the rear of the site.
Sleeping from 2 to 8 people and also with their own hot tubs the majority of these are also dog friendly which is great news for dog owners
Or if you want to splash out the English garden villa or English country villa both of which sleep up to 24 and has a full sized outdoor swimming pool in the private gardens.
Shopping / Home Delivery
There are several takeaways locally that will deliver to your door including a kebab shop and a Chinese – menus are available in reception.
You can also use the Bainland farm shop shopping link to have items delivered to your door within half hour – they have loads of essentials available – Tea, Coffee, Sugar, Milk, Bread, Cereal, Crisps and toiletries.
It was really handy for us especially when the little ones were in bed and we just fancied something to eat.
We really enjoyed our stay at Bainland Lodge Country Park, we will be back again soon!
Bainland also offer a returning discount of £50 if you stay again with them – you can find out more about booking with them here
We have found already lined up a future stay too! I have never been to Scotland so we are super excited to book a visit to Glenwood Glamping, Mallaig, Scotland.
