I know people don’t like talking about periods, but I don’t know why, they are perfectly natural and we (nearly) all have them! But if you are one of those people, this probably isn’t the post for you as I will be describing in some detail my experience with Modibodi period pants….
So hey if you are still here! If you are one of the many, like me, who have horrible painful heavy periods then you will join me in the excitement of finding Modibodi period pants (they are also suitable for bladder leaks those with bladder weakness)
After having tried menstrual cups, various pads and regular tampons and even reusable pads unsuccessfully I was pretty excited to try out ModiBodi’s high absorbency period-proof underwear
I ordered a high waist brief and a pair of shorts to start off with. I did find the shorts were slightly smaller in sizing than the brief even though I ordered the same size in both so I think I may need to lose a couple more lbs to squeeze into them a bit more comfortably. But the high waist briefs were super comfortable.
Although on first look, I did think they may feel bulky to wear, I was pleasantly surprised that they weren’t at all and I didn’t have the same uncomfortable feeling as wearing a pad.
If you use disposable period products you will be all too familiar with that uncomfortableness if it moves out of place and the fear of leaking (yes at 36 years of age I still can not get my pad in the right place in my regular underwear), but you won’t have any of these worries wearing these.
I also found they are very absorbent, (the Maxi will absorb up to 10 tampons’ worth or around 50ml perfect for those heavy flow days) and quickly, which was another worry that it would be uncomfortable if you could ‘feel’ it but they really were great.
My main struggle during my menstrual cycle is night-time because unfortunately gravity isn’t my friend when in bed and I often have to sleep on a towel to save the bedding.
I have worn both the brief and shorts overnight and even though I was aware it was one of my heavy days, due to the designs extra protection there were no leaks even with the heavier flow! Amazing 🙌🙌
But how do Modibodis period-proof underwear work?
Here is a little video from Modibodi to show how the menstrual products work – although it shows her rinsing them in the sink, I chucked mine in the bottom of the bath while I had a shower and they rinsed off just fine in cold water before I threw them in the washing machine without any fabric softeners.
Make sure you hang them out to dry and don’t put them in the tumble drier (my husband did with one pair and its slightly shrunk the absorbent panel so it doesn’t quite sit right now)
More than just a pair of pants…
But ModiBodi don’t only do period undies, they also do a Maternity range, Sleepwear, Swimwear, Activewear, they have a curvy range (up to a size 26 – hurrah!) and even do mix and match bundle packs with different styles which are even better value.
They also do carry bags for you to carry spare pairs and they are waterproof so you can also store your used pairs if you need too. They also have a teen range, including a first period starter pack (we have 3 girls so I guess we will need one of these soon!) There is even a men’s range for incontinence.
I did go for plain black but there are lots of beautiful designs to choose from, I was just playing it safe, black goes with everything and I have lots of black bras. They also have different absorbency levels to choose whether you want them for your heavier days or lighter days from so you really can find the perfect pair for your body.
Although there is an initial cost to get started, the savings from not buying sanitary products will quickly add up. I could end up using up to 4 packs of sanitary towels & a whole box of tampons in a cycle if it is really bad which probably isn’t far off the cost of a pair of briefs.
I have 2 and will now be ordering some more so within just a few months they will have paid for themselves and they are of course much better for the environment (every little helps on both of these topics!) I have added an update below as I am now an owner of around 20 pairs!
I hope you have found this useful and, please feel free to ask any quesions you have below or over on my socials and if you do want to try them you can bag yourself £10% off your first order here 🙂 I’d love to hear how you get on with them!
Not only have I now got over 10 pairs of ModiBodi’s best period underwear, in various sizes and absorbency levels including a pair of bikini briefs and some seam free ones to eliminate panty lines.
But I have now also purchased pairs of their moisture wicking briefs that are perfect for everyday wear and I have replaced most of my normal underwear with these now – I no longer have to go through packs and packs of panty liners and they are also perfect for exercising as the absorbent fabric pulls moisture away from your body.
I have spotted they also do sports leggings with built in period protection of up to 3 tampon’s worth so great if you don’t want to miss out of your fitness during your time of the month. These might be the next thing for me to try.
